"Where single parents write their own success stories"

Family Night Sponsor

The purpose of the Family Nights at Warren Village are to provide nutritious food for low-income families and to create a safe, inviting atmosphere for families to interact in a positive way with each other, with their children and with the community volunteers. Groups are asked to do one or more events per year. Sponsoring groups are asked to plan an evening meal and fun group activities on a scheduled Tuesday night for up to twenty-five Warren Village families.

We are looking for creative groups who want to plan new and exciting age appropriate projects for the families to do together. The volunteer group must also have the capacity to plan, cook and serve a simple, nutritious meal for up to 60 individuals, more than half of whom are children. Dinners should be nutritious yet easy to serve and adaptable for toddlers and young children. The group is also asked to plan and coordinate a fun project or event for the families. Ideas include: arts and crafts; board game night; family picnic in the park; holiday or seasonal theme nights; puppet shows; storytellers; magic shows or musical entertainment. Remember that the average age of the children is between 4-5 and parents often bring infants and toddlers with them, so the activities should be participatory and child friendly.

Volunteer groups are asked to take responsibility for a complete evening and to provide all food and supplies for the entertainment project chosen. Volunteers will be asked to complete a short orientation/training session on the evening they sponsor the event or in advance of that night. Volunteers will be asked to fill out Volunteer Profiles. Groups of teenagers must have adequate adult supervision. Children under age 14 must be accompanied by parents who are also volunteering.
