"Where single parents write their own success stories"

Family Services

If you want to go to school, have a good job and meet new friends then Warren Village is the place for you! Family Services is the "heart" of the Warren Village program. Single parents and their children have the opportunity to change and improve their lives through the Warren Village Community.

Single parents who live at Warren Village have goals and plans for their family's future. All residents work or go to school full time, attend three life skills classes a month and give back to the community through volunteer service. As a resident of Warren Village, you also have a personal relationship with a Family Advocate. Each Advocate has "listening ears" when you need to talk, helps you problem solve when life is "too hard" and gives many "atta girls" when you are successful.

The most important part of Warren Village is what you learn from the other single parents and the friendships and support you develop during your two years at Warren Village. With the support of Family Services, you will meet your neighbors in quarterly floor meetings and resident council activities such as barbecues and social events. You can be an officer in Resident Council or work on the yearly fundraiser. Every year at the Holidays you have an opportunity to volunteer at the Holiday Shop and then "shop" at no cost for new gifts for your children.

The best way for you to learn about Warren Village is through the eyes of a resident. Vanessa moved into Warren Village in March 2002…and here is her story.

Hello…my name is Vanessa and I am a single parent who is on my way to success. Two years ago I was married and living in Missouri. My husband was battering me and I fled with my four children to my father's home in Denver. I worked part time at Papa John's Pizza and lived in one bedroom with my children for a year. I had nothing! I could not make enough money to move to my own apartment and did not know about help with child-care costs. I could not see a way out. Then, one day, my sister told me about Warren Village. I applied and was accepted …I still do not know what I would have done without this helping hand.

Now I have a future! I have always liked math, and am now an accounting student at Emily Griffith Opportunity School. My two oldest children attend Dora More School and all of them are enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program in the Warren Village Learning Center. Because my kids are in a safe and enriched environment, I can concentrate on my own academic program. I am also so proud, because I just got elected as an officer of Resident Council. I go to five or six evening classes a month, because the classes are great and I learn so much. I volunteer at the reception desk in the Learning Center and feel great about helping.

Thank you Warren Village and everyone who supports this great place. Because of you, my children and I have a home and a future.
