Learning Center

Warren Village is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for our children. We want to assure that each child passing through our Learning Center is experiencing quality education, meeting developmental benchmarks, and is “school ready”.

Our Greta Horwitz Learning Center has been around for nearly as long as the Warren Village program. For 35 years it has been committed to quality early childhood education and the belief that when children have healthy beginnings and equal opportunities for success, they will develop a love of learning and a life-long journey discovering their potential. The Greta Horwitz Learning Center is at the forefront of new practices in the field of Early Childhood Education and brings those to our children, enriching their experience every day.

The Greta Horwitz Learning Center participates in a range of quality improvement initiatives such as Qualistar Early Learning, Colorado Preschool Program, Denver Preschool Program and the School Readiness Initiative. Teachers consistently participate in workshops and conferences as they expand their professional growth and development. All of these efforts allow us to provide a nurturing, loving and stimulating atmosphere in which children can discover their unique gifts and begin their journey toward a fulfilling, rewarding life.

Eligibility:
Our Learning Center serves children from six weeks to 12 years of age. Resident children of Warren Village have priority for enrollment; resident alumni and community children are welcome to enroll in the Learning Center on a space-available basis.

Curriculum: The Learning Center’s curriculum addresses all areas of a child’s development through a multi-cultural and gender-fair approach. Our program is designed to promote healthy physical growth; social, intellectual and emotional development; language skills; self-help skills; creativity and critical thinking in each child.

Activities: The full range of developmentally appropriate classroom activities focus on basic organizational skills such as taking turns, sharing, listening and follow directions while promoting academic and cognitive skills necessary for school readiness. Special activities include field trips to the Botanical Gardens, the Zoo, Museum of Nature and Science, Children’s Museum, as well as other fun places. We invite guest speakers, musicians and organize cultural festivities which provide an opportunity for hands on experiential learning for children and their parents.

Meals: Students at the Learning Center are served breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack prepared by our on-site chef. Our meals are healthy and nutritious, offering a balance of meats, dairy, and fresh produce daily. Food costs are subsidized by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Staff: All Learning Center staff must pass a health physical, a background check and meet necessary educational and experience requirements before they work with children. All staff has been trained and certified in CPR and First Aid and are required to keep their continuing education up to date.

Accreditation: The Greta Horwitz Learning Center was awarded national accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children Academy in February 2008. In addition, our Learning Center has received the highest, four-star rating from Qualistar Early Learning, a statewide non-profit organization working with child care providers, parents and communities setting standards and improving the quality of early childhood education in Colorado.
